What is Breast Lift Surgery?
Breast lift operation is trying to bring the breasts to the position they should be by pulling the tissue up. Pregnancy, breastfeeding and the normal aging process cause the breast tissue to weaken and sag over time. In cases of excessive sagging, the nipples also change and begin to look down. The lift operation also covers the nipples, and in the operation, the nipples are repositioned relative to the breast. This is called breast lift (mastopexy) surgery.
Why Breast Lift Aesthetics?
The breast is the symbol of femininity. Every woman wants to have aesthetically beautiful breasts. A woman with small or drooping breasts feels physically inadequate and this causes problems in her professional life, in her relations with the social environment or in her private life. Therefore, women with small and/or sagging breasts and who are uncomfortable with this situation apply to plastic surgeons for breast lift surgery. In breast augmentation and/or lift surgery, we aim to create a fuller, larger and aesthetically satisfying breast.
What Is Done Before Breast Lift Surgery?
As with all aesthetic surgeries, individual evaluation and planning should be made before breast lift surgery. The person is informed in detail about the surgery that will be performed, taking into account the volume of the breast, the amount of sagging, and the patient’s expectations.
Preoperative imaging methods such as USG or mammography are used to investigate whether there is a suspicious lesion in the breast. If a prosthesis is needed for breast lift surgery, the shape and dimensions of the prosthesis are decided. You should openly discuss your expectations with your doctor for an optimal result. However, you should not forget that the surgeries are applied not to make the person’s body perfect, but to present it better. As in any surgery, tests related to anesthesia are applied.
What are the Methods Used in Breast Lifting?
The Breast Lift process includes the recovery of sagging breast tissue and removal of excess skin. Sometimes, silicone breast prostheses can be applied to achieve a better result in breast lift surgery.
How are breast lift and recovery surgeries performed?
Postpartum breastfeeding and postpartum weight gain can cause loosening of the breasts, hiding them and lowering the nipples. This can seriously disturb women. For this, breast lift operations are performed. If the person has enough breast tissue, we reshape the hidden breast tissue and move the nipple to a higher position. If the person does not have enough breast tissue, and if the breast tissue has become smaller due to breastfeeding, a breast prosthesis is placed under the breast with this procedure, both bringing the nipple higher and giving the breast fullness.
Which technique is used in Breast Lift surgery?
There are various lifting techniques according to the degree of sagging of the breast and its form. The patient is seen by the surgeon and it is decided what kind of surgery will be performed and which technique will be used. Some breasts may be both sagging and reduced in volume, that is, deflated.
In this case, breast lift surgery is performed using a silicone prosthesis and thus the lost volume is restored to the breast. Some breasts grow and sag, meaning, there is an excess of volume. In this case, the breast lift procedure is performed together with the breast reduction procedure.
How long does breast lift surgery take?
Depending on the scale of the surgery, breast lift surgery takes an average of 1-3 hours.
What is breast asymmetry? Is there a surgical solution?
Breast asymmetry is the situation in which both breasts look different from each other. When we look at the frequency of its occurrence in our society, it is seen as very intense. Almost all women do not actually have two breasts the same way. With good surgical planning, asymmetrical breasts can be brought as close to each other as possible by surgery. As in all aesthetic surgeries, personal evaluation, planning and surgery are required.
What Happens After Breast Lift?
Swelling, bruising and pain may occur in the first few days after breast lift. Pain can be controlled with painkillers. Wearing a supportive bra can speed recovery. Swelling and bruising may persist for a week or two. After the Breast Lift procedure, the patient can return to her daily life, provided that she avoids heavy activities within a few days. After an average of 1.5 months, sports etc. activities can be resumed.
Can breast lift surgery be performed in the summer?
The things to consider in breast augmentation operations are exactly the same whether it is summer or winter. The only difference is that the patient should be protected from sunlight in summer. Another issue is the possibility that infection of the implant may have serious consequences. Patients are recommended not to enter the pool for 4 weeks after the operation.
Will there be any scars after breast lift surgery?
Breast lift surgery is an operation that leaves a varying amount of scars depending on the scale and shape of the surgery. After the breast lift, the scars are left in areas that can be hidden as much as possible. Although a line-shaped scar remains in general, significant scars may occur in those with wound healing disorders. In addition, different scars may occur in patients who have undergone a joint lift, as more incisions are needed.
What is the result after breast lift?
With the Breast Lift procedure, there is an improvement in breast sagging, the difference in shape or size between your breasts can be corrected. However, some structural breast deformities may not disappear with breast augmentation and lift. Generally, women are satisfied with the breast lift procedure. However, the anatomical structure and expectations of the person are also very important. People who have realistic expectations and can openly discuss them have a higher satisfaction rate.
What are the Risks of Breast Lift?
Early-term risks such as bleeding, infection, and wound dehiscence can be seen in this surgery, albeit at a low rate. Nipple numbness may occur temporarily. Very rarely it can be permanent. The difference in size and shape after surgery does not generally occur unless the person has a significant chest asymmetry.
Incompatibility between breast tissue and implant may lead to asymmetry in patients who used breast implants together with breast lift. Secondary surgeries may be needed at a rate of 10%. If the implant is used, hardening, softening, position change, and deflation due to injury may occur in the implant over time.
These conditions may require secondary surgical interventions. Capsule contracture is a late complication of breast implant. The hardening of the tissue surrounding the breast tissue and compression of the breast implant may result in distortions in the shape of the breast. Sometimes it may be necessary to surgically remove the capsule and replace the implants.
Prostheses placed under the breast may prevent masses from being seen on mammography. In this case, a submuscular plan may be preferred or the breast is imaged by another method such as MRI.
