Fat injection (lipofilling, lipoinjection) is the process of transferring the fat taken from one part of the body to another area for filling purposes. It is generally applied to fill the pits in the body lines for various reasons, to reduce the clarity of the lines that occur due to aging in the face area, to give a plump, aesthetic appearance to weak faces or to plump the lips.

Weakness or deficiency in the subcutaneous fat tissue is also reflected in the external appearance of the body, and an unaesthetic irregular appearance may occur in that area. With the fat injection method, we try to achieve a better aesthetic appearance by injecting the fat we take from one area of the patient into another area that is weak or deficient.

The fat to be used for fat injection is taken from any place where fat tissue is high, such as the belly, hips, legs, in an amount to meet the need, by the fat suction process, which we call the liposuction method.

The success in fat injection varies depending on the way the fat is extracted and injected, and the way the fat is transferred through various processes.

It is difficult to even call the fat injection process a surgery. It is a non-surgical procedure in most cases. Depending on the amount of fat to be taken, local or general anesthesia can be applied. Fat injection is not a painful procedure, too much pain is not felt.

There are no traces in the areas where the fat is transferred and the areas where the fat is taken. Swelling, edema and bruising occur in the place where the oils are injected, and they resolve spontaneously in 10-15 days.

The patient does not need to stay in the hospital. A few hours after the procedure, a patient can easily go home.

In general, it does not cause any discomfort that will affect the daily life of the person. It is beneficial for patients to rest in the first two days due to edema and bruises that may occur in some areas.

Fat injection is often used in the face area. It is applied to reduce the prominence of facial lines that become evident due to aging. This operation on the face area does not stop aging, that is, it does not eliminate the cause, it only makes the appearance a little younger and camouflages the old age.

It is used to thicken the lips, to eliminate deep wrinkles by filling them, to plump the cheekbones, and to enlarge the lower jaw a little. If there is a collapse in any part of the body as a result of accidents, this area can fill with fat.

Fat injection is an ideal method to correct deformity in patients who have had liposuction surgery and have areas that look collapsed due to bad applications..

In appropriate cases, fat injection can be applied for breast enlargement. It is not a preferred method due to its results… It can be used in a limited number of cases.

We also successfully use the fat injection technique in female genital aesthetics. As it is known, adipose tissue in the organs in the external genitalia may decrease due to aging. It manifests itself especially in the hairy and high area just below the groin called “mons pubis”. In the same way, thinning can be seen in the labium (lip parts) due to different reasons. In such cases, the external appearance can be corrected by injecting some fat tissue into these areas.

The most important problem in the fat injection process is that some of the injected fats melt over time. Almost half of the fat given within 6 months after the injection melts and is excreted from the body. The rest is permanent. Melting of fat does not cause any health problems. If necessary, fat injection can be done again.

In fat application, excess fat can be stored in sterile tubes in a suitable cooling environment and re-injected. It can be preferred since there will be no degreasing process again, but I do not prefer it. I am in favor of extracting and injecting fresh fat from the body. I believe using fresh fat will increase success and reduce the risk of infection.
